Summary

The debut picture book from the creator of the viral sensation Kid President is a moving take on how we can create bigger and bigger circles of community and connections as we grow--now a New York Times bestseller!

In the circles all around us, everywhere that we all go, there's a difference we can make and a love we can all show。

This is the story of a circle。 When we're first born, our circle is very small, but as we grow and build relationships, our circle keeps getting bigger and bigger to include family, friends, neighbors, community, and beyond。 Brad Montague originally created Circles as an Instagram video adorably narrated by his kids, and now this picture book adaptation is the perfect way to start a conversation about how to expand our worlds with kindness and inclusivity--even if it seems scary or uncomfortable。 This book makes an ideal new-baby, first-day-of-school, or graduation gift, or any milestome that celebrates someone's world getting bigger。

Attractive but simple illustrations created with analogue and digital methods complement a message of positivity about extending one's circle of comfort。 I can remember being intrigued many decades ago in sociology and psychology courses when I encountered the notion of personal space and then the slightly larger spaces or circles in which humans navigated with those inner circles consisting of those with whom they felt most comfortable。 This picture book extends that concept by starting with a Attractive but simple illustrations created with analogue and digital methods complement a message of positivity about extending one's circle of comfort。 I can remember being intrigued many decades ago in sociology and psychology courses when I encountered the notion of personal space and then the slightly larger spaces or circles in which humans navigated with those inner circles consisting of those with whom they felt most comfortable。 This picture book extends that concept by starting with a child inside a small circle and then widening that circle constantly so that the circle encompasses everyone。 Several of the circles are small while others are larger and constantly growing, and the text and images remind readers that expanding our world or our comfort level may be challenging, but with a little kindness and thought, it will be worth the effort, clearly a positive take on how to live life well。 This one would be a great title to share at the start of a school year to open some hearts and minds。 。。。more

As a Montague Workshop fan, I wasn't surprised by the great rhyming in the book。 It has a great message about inclusion and differences and love, and also provides a starting point for conversations like boundaries and the differences in sharing with people in a closer or farther circle。 As a Montague Workshop fan, I wasn't surprised by the great rhyming in the book。 It has a great message about inclusion and differences and love, and also provides a starting point for conversations like boundaries and the differences in sharing with people in a closer or farther circle。 。。。more

What an extremely thoughtful and endearing book。 It helps explain to children that it is okay to take time and space for yourself and to let others into that space that you love and trust。 The examples given of circles that represent different relationships that one has in life is a great visual for children and adults alike。 I bought this book for my kindergarten class and look forward to sharing it with each of my classes from now on。

Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss。This was a cute rhyming picture book with a great message of inclusion。 I really found the beginning and end to be strong with the middle just alright。 The book reminded me a little of a lesson I've taught to kindergarteners/first graders about community where we draw a circle that says "ME" in the middle, then a circle around it that says "family," etc。 with bigger circles。 So this could be a great book to talk about communit Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss。This was a cute rhyming picture book with a great message of inclusion。 I really found the beginning and end to be strong with the middle just alright。 The book reminded me a little of a lesson I've taught to kindergarteners/first graders about community where we draw a circle that says "ME" in the middle, then a circle around it that says "family," etc。 with bigger circles。 So this could be a great book to talk about community。 。。。more
